Happy New Year!

Daniela

We started out New Year’s Eve day with a nice long hike.  Sean was not interested in the hike, so he stayed behind at the lodge and had his own adventures.  Our destination today was a lake, but we were not sure we would make it all the way to the lake, doing so would mean 5 hours of hiking.  We gave it a good effort though.  The mountains are beautiful, and it was reasonably clear, so that we could see a lot of the snow capped peaks.  P1000167

There was a lot of elevation gain in the hike today.  Let me tell you, sitting in a van for 7 months, does very little for you cardiovascular system, and  I was puffing like a steam train, going up those hills.   When we finally made it to the top of the ridge, we could see a spectacular waterfall ahead of us.  Pictures do not do this waterfall justice.

The lake would have been over the far ridge, but I had had enough climbing, so we ended up hiking to the falls and enjoying our lunch there instead.  What a nice spot.  Mungo spent some time surveying his domain.

Once he was sure it was all “good”, he made himself a nice nest to lay down in.

Poor dog, it’s been a long time since he had this much exercise!!

We had supper with the guests at the lodge tonight.  A good thing, because I was too tired to cook after the hike.  There are a lot of very interesting characters staying here.  Most are fairly young, all are pretty nice.  After supper, we chatted, and then later in the evening, a huge bonfire was built up amongst the boulders.  The owners of the lodge have a 5 year old son, and Sean and he got along quite well, even though Tristan insisted on calling Sean “Roger” all night.  When midnight came, some fireworks were lit.  Sean and Tristan got to help with the task.  Sara and  Kevin were already back at the van sleeping before midnight came.  Seems the hike took a lot out of my little girl.  She had really wanted  to stay up until midnight, but just couldn’t.  Sean on the other hand was raring to go, and I had to force him back to the camper at about 12:45.  It has been a long time since I have actually stayed up until midnight to usher in the new year.  I’m awfully tired today.

We will be moving to a new location today, another lodge in this area.  If it is anything like this one, I am sure I will enjoy it immensely.

Happy New Year to you all, I hope you had as much fun as we did ushering in the New Year!!!
