The Lazy Dog Inn

Daniela

We left the Way Inn late yesterday afternoon and moved onto another inn in the same area, called the Lazy Dog (fitting?).  The Lazy Dog Inn is owned by a Calgarian couple, Diana and Wayne.  It is a little bit different than the last inn, not so many people running around, but very homey.  Instead of  camping, we are indulging in a cabin, and breakfast and supper are “part of the deal”.

Diana and Wayne are big dog lovers (maybe, hence the name?) and were happy to accommodate Mungo.  One of their dogs had a bit of an altercation with a guest’s dog the day before we came, so they were a bit worried about how things would go between their dog and Mungo.  We decided that the best way to introduce the dogs was to walk them off the property together.  For once, Mungo was not the” king of the hill”, in fact, he was downright “bottom of the heap”, as far as the pecking order went.  In any case, there was a bit of grumbling, but it all worked out fine in the end.  I must admit, I strangely enjoyed seeing Mungo put in his place for once.  I am so mean!!

There are also horses on the property, and Mungo decided to get up close and personal with one of the horses yesterday.  The horse was having none of Mungo’s nosing, and ended up kicking him in the head.  Luckily, Mungo has a good strong head, and he escaped unscathed, although he sure did get the heck out of the horse pen in a hurry.  I thought that would be the end of his undying curiosity with horses, but this morning, he was eager to give the dog/horse friendship thing, another try.  I am not sure if he is just the eternal optimist, or if he is a downright fool (I suspect the latter).

We went for another hike up another valley today.  This valley reminded me even more of the mountains at home.  The weather was not as great as the last hiking day, and we were a bit cool on the walk back.  Even got hailed on a bit!   When we got back to the cabin, we decided to hole up, start a fire and play Monopoly.  We don’t own the game Monopoly and really we have never played it as a family.  Sean and Kevin dominated the game, I lost terribly.  Sean loved the game, and I think we may have created a Monopoly monster!!

I think we will end up staying here for another night or two.  The food is great, the company is wonderful, hard to leave a place like that!!!
