What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Back to New Brunswick, we drove again. It was a good day for travelling. We awoke with the rain and it rained steadily all day. We drove most of the way through New Brunswick and today we are camped near Grand Falls, in the northwest corner of the province.
Before we came to the Maritimes, we managed to get our hands on some tourism magazines for the provinces. When we flipped through these, pictures of Grand Falls and it’s accompanying Gorge caught my attention. Grand Falls are the largest falls in New Brunswick and the pictures were gorgeous.
We drove into town and followed the signs which led us to the falls and the Falls museum. The Falls museum was closed (am I surprised?), and the Information office was closed, even though there was a sign on the door saying it would be open beginning May 31st. And the Falls….they were closed too…kind of.
It seems there is a dam right behind the Falls (not sure how I missed that in the pictures) and the dam is closed at the moment, so the Grand Falls are really just a trickle of what they can be.
Not very impressive, huh?
The gorge is still pretty, nice high walls, but there is very little water in the gorge, so again, less impressive than we were led to believe. If the Information place had been open, I would have asked them what the scoop was, who turned off the water. But, of course, it was closed, maybe to avoid having to answer that particular question. While we were trying to figure out what happened to the water, two fellows from Newfoundland wandered up and asked if we thought these really were the Falls. We told them we thought they were to which one fellow replied, “I hope you didn’t drive very far to see these”. Hmmm, just about 35,000kms!!!!
On to other news. Remember when I said it was best that I forgot my camera yesterday, to avoid embarrassing a certain hound? Well, Tamzin did not forget her camera, and Mungo is likely wishing she did (for that matter, so are Raimi and Archer). I like to call this picture “the Love Train”, although I admit love has very little to do with it. Sorry Mungo!!
Mungo is the middle “car”. At least he had the decency to turn his head during the photo. Just another example kids about why you should NEVER do stupid things. You never know who might catch it on film!!
Tomorrow, we start back through Quebec. I hope it is a little cooler, but I also hope the rain stops. It seems I am never happy!!
