The Rock

I know it has been a long, long time, since I have posted.  Life has gotten a bit busier lately.  Not a bad busy, just regular life creeping back up on us.

The kids have both started on some dry land training to get them back “into shape” for skiing and biathlon training in the winter.  They are both enjoying themselves, and Sara even was muscle sore for the first time ever in her life.  Good, good, nice to know they are both back to their active selves.

Sean grew so much in the year we were away, that he needed a new bike.  He hasn’t ridden less than 3 hours a day since we bought it.  It doesn’t hurt that his buddy, a few doors down, is willing to cycle all day as well.

This week, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association has their annual convention, and this year, it happens to be in Calgary.  I decided to volunteer, since I have a little time on my hands, and so for four days, I have been hanging out at the Hyatt for 8 to 10 hours/ day.  I get to sit in on lectures when I am not busy, and it is good to be back in a “vet” environment!!  I have met a few old classmates and other friends from vet school, and it is always fun to “catch up”.

I have been running around town on my scooter and although it is GREAT fun (I really missed my scooter!), I decided I should buy a car.  It is kind of hard to carry home improvement and gardening supplies on a scooter!  I really wasn’t sure what I wanted to buy, except that I figured I should get something used (you know being unemployed and all), I wanted something AWD (I have had an AWD since I was 19), an I didn’t want anything big.  I ended up buying another Subaru Forester.  Call me boring, my last 2 vehicles have been Subaru Foresters, but they just seem to suit me!  They are zippy, fun to drive, not too big, but big enough for a large ridgeback (or 2?)!

On the subject of a second dog…it is a distinct possibility.  Some days I think a second ridgeback would be great, and then sometimes (when Mungo is a particularly naughty hound), I think…"What am I thinking?”  Yesterday, houdini dog figured out how to get out of the front gate.  None of my dogs have EVER even thought about leaving the yard.  Everytime we think we have the yard secured, good old Mungo finds another “way out”.  So maybe the decision on whether or not we get another Ridgeback, will depend on whether we can “Alcatraz” the backyard, because knowing Mungo, he would hold the gate open while he led the new puppy on a new adventure!  I will keep you posted…I promise!
