Holy Howler
We had a great day in Charco Verde today. The kids jumped in the lake right after breakfast and stayed there until we hauled them out at lunch.
We took Mungo on a good walk this morning. I don’t know how large this property is, but there are a number of trails crisscrossing the property. Some trails lead to the lake, some to view points. It was overcast all day today, making it a lot nicer for walking (not so much sweating), and Mungo actually got to run off leash. The hotel has a “house dog”, a Dalmatian named Lucky. We let Mungo meet Lucky and they played on the beach a bit this morning, while the kids were in the water. This afternoon, we took Mungo for another off leash walk along the trails and Lucky joined us. The two dogs had lots of fun running up and down the trail.
There are monkeys on this island, both howler and capuchin (I think). We have heard howler monkeys a few times since being here. They are very, very loud, and the sound they make is almost like a growl. Today, Mungo and I were relaxing in the cabin and a howler monkey started making noise. You should have seen the look on Mungo’s face when he heard THAT noise. I managed to squeeze out the door without the hound in tow and found the howler monkey in the tree right above our cabin. He was raining debris onto the roof of our cabin. Now how is a dog supposed to ignore THAT!!
Tomorrow we leave this lovely island. We should be crossing into Costa Rica, if all goes well. Wish us luck.
Good luck! I hope the officers at the border go easy on you this time.
