San Pedro Day 1
Our first full day in San Pedro was pretty laid back. There are a million foreigners in this town, likely all doing exactly what we are doing, trying to learn Spanish. Unlike the million other foreigners however, we do not have dread locks and are not 20-25 years old. This morning when walking Mungo, Sara and Kevin counted no less than 11 different signs advertising Spanish schools. We walked down to our school this morning and formally signed up for another week of lessons, 4 hours a day. We also signed up to be housed with a family for the week. So for one week, we will be living in someone else’s home, having them cook for us. I am a little anxious about this, especially since Sean seems to be a little picky these days! We will just have to wait and see. It is ridiculously cheap to do this. All four of us, plus the dog will be taught a total of 20 hours of Spanish (actually, I doubt that the dog will learn any Spanish), plus be fed and housed for a total of $540.00 US. This is way less than even our $100.00/day living allowance we have given ourselves!! I hope it goes well.
So we paid for another night at the Hotel San Francisco and tomorrow we will meet our homestay family at the school. I must say this is a much more laid back country than Mexico, especially with regards to the The Hound. The people do not seem as wary of him and this afternoon we strolled into an outdoor cafe with him at our side and were served without question!! The only downside is that there is pretty much zero grass, so getting him to do his business is an interesting challenge.
We spent a little time on the shores of the lake today. It does not really have much in the way of beaches, but we found a rocky crag to hang out at. A few people were swimming, but I just could not bring myself to swim out past the garbage for a swim. Not everything that was floating in the water was garbage, but I’m hoping the kids will post something about the other floating objects, so I won’t spoil the surprise.
This is a view of the lake from our current hotel. Here are the kids fooling around with some rocks on the “beach”.
This is San Pedro Volcano. Yes, we are situated at the base of a volcano!!! Please, please no Pompeii like situations!
